I surrender

The word ‘surrender’ for me used to create the connotations of failure or giving up. But over the years I have come to learn to navigate the delicate balance between doing and allowing, between resistance and acceptance, between fighting and surrendering.

Don’t get me wrong, there are things I will never surrender to, but during our marriage David and I have accumulated enough wisdom to know, that our free will only goes so far and that beyond that, we must allow for things to be, without our direct intervention.

Since incorporating spiritual warfare into our lives this process of taking a step back and allowing things to follow their natural course, has been quite a new and eye opening experience for us, but one that is having quite an impact in our lives.

We now see our life as a collaborative effort, a partnership of sorts with ourself and God.

We can do the best we can, take the necessary steps in any given direction and then wait and observe. If it was meant to be, things start taking shape, we start seeing signs that direct us along the way and if it was not meant to be, well, nothing happens.

This wonderful cooperation means fear lessens, we don’t get as stressed, or anxious or worried about things, it has allowed us to find peace in the ongoing swing between effort and surrender, between self responsibility and trust, between control and submission.

Our efforts in this endeavour do not go unnoticed; the higher you rise, we have noticed the stronger the connection to God becomes and the more we are able to navigate this crazy journey. We now have the best travel companion one could hope for.

With a little guidance from above, there’s no chance of getting lost.

Well, not for the time being at least.
